Our hen Karen seems under the weather. She is lethargic but still has energy to run away from us. She is staying off on her own and laying down majority of the morning so far. She is still eating and drinking. I have felt her abdomen and I do not feel an egg. We still gave her a 30 minute epsom soak and a tums mixed into some tuna. When she is walking around she is all puffed up. She has had several bowel movements and they appear mostly normal. I’m not sure what could be going on with her at this point. Any Suggestions

When they puff up and take the "penguin stance", my mind immediately goes to her being egg bound. Can you pick up some calcium citrate? I know you mentioned Tums, but I'm pretty sure that's calcium carbonate (which is slower acting). The last time this happened to me, she laid a shell-less egg, which I'm not sure you could feel through her abdomen.

How's the weather where you are? Could she just be overheating?

She ended up laying a small egg with a few blood droplets on it. It did have a hard shell but it was like magic after she laid. She seems back to normal. It’s been extremely hot where we are, 105 or so daily for two weeks almost.

What a relief! I'd still give her the calcium daily until she lays a normal egg, but glad to hear she's feeling better. :)
