I have a three year old hen who’s walking incredibly slow and looks pretty lethargic. I noticed this before sundown yesterday. This morning, the first thing I did was check on her. She was laying next to their food and water. That’s the only area she seems to want to be around. Her tail feathers are hunched down and she’s throwing up a thick liquid. Can anyone give me advice on how to help her get better? Here’s a picture of what she looks like.

Do you know when she last laid? Does her abdomen feel bloated, below the vent between the legs, very firm or water balloon like, compare with another if you are not sure? What do her droppings look like?

Hello misshell,

We're having the same problem on our farm. Same breed and age. I thought it might be egg bind but can't feel an egg in exam. We have her separated and she hasn't pooped all night.

How's your girl doing?

Hopefully we can both figure out what's going on.

She had trouble walking into the coop with the girls that night. I picked her up and set her in so she didn’t have to struggle. When I let them out in the morning, she, unfortunately, didn’t make it. :(

I'm so sorry to hear that😓 We lost one of our girls like that during winter for a similar issue.
We figured out it's sour crop. We took some advice from other articles and drained her crop. She seems to be doing better but we're still keeping a close eye. I'm wondering if this is an issue for golden sexlinks...

I hope she makes a full recovery for you. All of my other sex links seem to be doing great. Sad to lose her.
