Hi all! Looking for some advice about my two-day old Pekin duckling. He was acting great the first day, but last night and today became very lethargic. He drinks and drinks but doesn't seem to want to eat. Just drinks and sleeps, sometimes falls asleep with his beak in the waterer. He and his siblings were terribly overdue (this was my first hatch and I think my incubator was too cool) and was the only one out of 4 survivors that hatched right-way-up. I had to help his three siblings out of breech eggs. They are all doing great (other than one with a cocked head, but even that one is perky and acting normally otherwise).
I just hard boiled some egg and fed him from my fingers, he ate a few bites. I made up an electrolyte solution (sugar/water/baking soda) and he has sipped a bit. I will be getting some poultry vitamins after work. There is brewer's yeast mixed in the non-medicated poultry starter he was eating yesterday.
Any advice would be appreciated- anything else that can be done? He seems to have a very black stump of an umbilical cord left that's quite a lump. Otherwise physically he looks great, just so very sleepy.
Thanks so much!
