Hi everybody, new to the group, and don't like that my first post has to be about this!
I rescued a duckling a few weeks ago, found alone in the middle of a highway median. I'm not sure what kind of duck he is although I'm thinking probably a Mallard. Tried finding a sanctuary as I know raising a wild duck isn't good for them, but none would take him due to them all having a bunch of ducklings already, (stating they feared it may interfere with their own.) I figured taking him in was the better alternative to leaving him along the highway or alone elsewhere.

Anyways, he's been great up until the last day or two. Had tons of energy. Ran around the house, swam, ate and drank normally, warmed right up to me. Up until about two days ago. It looked like he was limping, then he started listing to one side and was running in circles. After doing so reading, we put him in his box with only his water in hopes that maybe he ate something he shouldn't have. The next day he was back to normal. Running, no more limp, peeping his head off, eating and drinking normally. This morning he was great too. Doing everything like normal.

Went out for several hours and when I returned home he was sitting in one spot not moving, I took him out (he didn't even try to run like he usually does) and he seemed very weak and lethargic. Heavy head, not walking alot, and when he did, it would be towards me, constantly trying to hide somewhere, and at times almost ripping over. He was still pecking away at things, peeping and eating a bit and drinking, but he just seemed to be doing it very slowly.

Any idea what might be going on? I've tried searching but haven't found anything similar to this. Worried about this little guy :(

We've been feeding him fruits and veggies, greens, oates, and after reading some threads I've just recently gone and found some insects for him to try. (He developed that limp i mentioned, before I gave him any sort of insect.) We also have a pond that has an abundance of some sort of duckweed and hes been eating that as well. All in moderation.

Negative on the Niacin. Have not given him any.

Unfortunately things just took a turn for the worst, really quickly. Little guy ended up passing just now. :( thanks for the quick answers you two.
