Hello, one of my hens is displaying some weird behavior. Her wings are spread out and she's panting. I tried to check if she's egg bound but she keeps expelling poop everytime I do so. She's also not interested in water or food. She has started exhibiting symptoms last night. Any idea on what's the problem?
Age: 4 years old
Breed: Bsl

Seems like she’s maybe overheating? Start her on some electrolytes but make sure to also provide clean cold regular water also. Try also dipping her feet in cold water. I’ve heard that’s the fastest way to cool off a bird.
Is it hot where you are?
It's not extremely hot and I haven't noticed any of my other hens also panting. It was around 88 yesterday where I live. I will try dipping her feet in cold water though!
Edit: I dipped her feet in cold water and she started drinking from the tub her feet were placed in lol. Still not interested in eating.

They open their wings in an effort to cool down. Panting is also a method they use to cool down their bodies.
Make sure the birds have free access to cool water, & shade.

Yes you can her electrolytes and get the ground wet a little bit, they sometimes like to stand in puddles. Of course leave some dry ground.. You can also give them some fruits to cool down. Some fruits like strawberries and watermelon.. 🙃

Thank you! I'll update if her condition changes in any way but I was worried it was coccidiosis for a moment there.
That's not a Symptom of Coccidiosis, & with as old she is, she's already been exposed, & immune to the various strains found in the soils.

Sounds good.
