Chickens enjoy scratching inside the coop, as well as outside for greens, etc.

But what they are eating IN the coop isn't spilled feed or scratch (which I don't give them), but small pieces of their wood shaving bedding and--I would assume--pieces of their poop, as well.

This does not overly concern me, but should it? I don't think there is a way to avoid this (I do deep litter, btw). It is impossible to contain all the poop chickens lay to a place outside of their reach.

So the long & the short of it is: my chickens--at least mine and I assume yours--eat a good little bit of simply wood pieces and poop every day!

Whaddyall tink o' dat?

yes they do.

My coop has a wire floor and is raised, so a lot of the poo at night falls through to the ground underneath.

Where is their absolute FAV place to hang out and dust bathe?

You guessed it - right under the coop...

On the positive side, they keep the poo all scratched up and broken up so I don't have much of a clean up job...
