With our batch of 50 left over (mostly roo's) we got for meaties, we are going to keep a couple of roos for "breeding".

There are 2 contenders for barred rock (ish type)

russell crow

Harvey

There will be a buff orp selection coming also as soon as we can get a decent pick of the contenders.


So which boy, what do you think he is, and why would you keep him?!?!

If i had to pick i would have to choose to keep Harvey, He is BEAUTIFUL. It would also depend on witch one is the nicest.

I vote Harvey. They are both beautiful, but I'm kind of partial to the more white. Plus if they both are Barred Rocks, Russel Crow looks like he has some brown/golden color on his wing and I'm not sure, but I think that's not a standard trait. Don't know for sure though

Both nice lookin' roos, there. With that said, I vote Harvey.

I hope Harvey is the nicest rooster (to the hens), because that should be the #1 reason to keep a roo. A gentleman roo who does his roosterly duties and keeps the flock safe.

DW here. Do you think they're both barred rocks? Harvey looks like what we think of for BR, but Russell seems different. Russell takes good care of most of the girls, and Harvey has just a few that he tends to. Neither are aggressive toward us, and Russell is definitely more friendly.

I don't think Russel is full BR - I think he's probably a black sex-link or something similar. As far as which one to keep; whichever one treats you and the girls the best!

My vote is for Russell! The friendly roo get's it all day in my book. He's handsome too! Looks to be sex link, possibly with some cuckoo maran blood in him since his legs appear more whitish pink.
