Should you let shipped hatching eggs rest before giving them to a broody hen? My hen is currently sitting on 6 fake eggs and I have 6 Ameraucana hatching eggs coming this week and I was just wondering if I need to let those eggs sit for a period of time before giving them to her? Thanks!

Most people let shipped eggs sit for 24 hours in an upright position (big end up) to help stabilize the air cell which can get damaged in shipping. I put my shipped eggs in an egg carton at room temperature for 24 hours before moving to incubator. I’d do the same before putting them under a hen, personally.

I have let them sit for 8 hrs to come to room temp and also let them sit for 24 hrs. Honestly I didn't find much difference with the air cells. Some I let sit for 24 hrs had really bad saddled air cells and some didn't. This year none have really been saddled and I have done it both ways. I would let them come to room temp though.
