Hello:) new to this site. Wondering if there’s anyone else in here that lives nearby that is unhappy with our current chicken laws... or .. Well.. no chicken laws and if anyone else has tried to change that? Currently it states there’s a 5 acre minimum for poultry (and all other land fowl) I have an acre, we have a very private yard, our neighbors are not right on top of us and I am pretty annoyed that I need Five Acres to have a few chickens ... five.. come on 🙄. Hoping to connect with some other local chicken loving peeps maybe we can make some changes 💛

Howdy, I'm in central NY and running into a similar thing. I searched our local ordinances found nothing, got pullet and a hen house, and now have a citation because one of my neighbors ratted us out. The local law was buried in the "definition" of a farm and not listed in its own ordinance. Now here I am reading the details over and over and my law also states no chickens within the village unless you have 5 acres or more of land. BUT, NO ONE in the village limits has five acres.... so as far as I can see it this law was unfair when it was written in. Now I am wondering if I need to seek a area use variance even though I had a hard NO from the village zoning lady. Hate to think that I will have to fight this but unfortunately it doesnt seem like an easy road. Honestly, I'm wonding how bad it would be just to deal with consequences of breaking a local zoning law... from everything I've read its less than a misdemeanor and only kept in local records. Ugh, what a mess.

Basically, the amount of corruption in this country is staggering.

But you can't even fight back because they own all sides of the system in the law.

I don't condone any violence still. And you can't fight back anyway.

But its at a point where people can't even build a future anymore. I don't like this system. Supposedly you can even run 4 to 6 sheep per acre also. With chickens you can raise them in small square footage about the size of a residential house. Goats need more because they strip mine all the vegetation and have to be rotated. Cows need about an acre per cow.

So they are trying to write the law in ways to make people in bondage.

But for awhile a lot of people didn't even know you could do so many things on small pieces of land if you practiced sustainable agriculture.

Not from their but that law is basically no chickens at all since no one has that much land there

I’m about to move to Lewiston and we have chickens too! Was just trying to look up their laws.
