we are in lockdown, but my mom thinks she needs to keep opening the incubator and give them air because it is a still air. is this necessary, is it benificial, is it not doing anything, or is it actually doing harm?

This actaully very bad - never open after lockdown . This released humidity needed in lockdown and messes with the temps. It has vent holes - and there are two bigger holes with the rds caps on them . Take both of those off for lockdown. The main worry here is really the loss of humidity each time you open it - highly needed for hatching - without that you run the risk of zip locking the membrane on the chick when they pip thru the shell. I have hatched in this bator and during lockdown never opened it once
