LGD Training poultry

Hello all you peeps out there. Ok i have a few questions to ask about LGDs. 1. Should i have 2 dogs one for my sheep and one for my chickens or can just 1 do good? 2. Does your LGD stay with the poultry like it would with the sheep? 3. How do you train a LGD on poultry. I might get more questions later after more research. Thinking about getting one for my sheep and poultry. THANKS!

A good livestock guard dog can not be trained to guard either sheep nor chickens. It does this from instinct. However you can socialize a dog to view a flock of sheep or chickens as his pack. The best of the best LSGDs live with their pack/flock since the dogs reaction time is then shorter and besides the dogs' presence is a deterrent.
