Lice and mite prevention

Should I put some sort of powder in or spray my coop with something to prevent lice and mites? If so, what do you recommend?

I dump Food grade DE in the coop every few days. Super dusty, but the girls bath in it and it kills bugs.

If you use DE make sure you wear a mask when spreading it. You should not breathe it, as it can cause significant lung problems. Also be aware that it can kill beneficial insects like honey bees, so don't put it near flowers, etc. That said, I use it in my coop on my sand floor and mix some with sand in the dust bath. I think it keeps the poop dry and odors down too.
