I’m pretty sure my chickens have lice and mites. I am going to make them a dust bath with sand and diatomaceous earth, hoping that will help a lot. I read that Ivermectin can help a lot too, but I don’t know anything else about it. Does it help, and how should I apply it?

I use permethrin 10 liquid, and it's always been great. Diatomaceous Earth had never been very effective in my experience. Also it's bad for their respiratory systems (it's like tiny razorblades).

You take 1 oz of permethrin 10 with a Jason of water, and you already your chickens around their vent and I've their wings really well, making sure it gets on their skin. Repeat in 5 days. You have to treat all of the chickens. You can spray this on your coop, too. It's not toxic to chickens, but it is very toxic for cats, so make sure you keep any kitties away.

Elector PSP is also really effective, but it's exponentially more expensive and harder to find.

Permethrin is best for a quick cure , not sure about egg withdrawal. Ivermectin is nasty poison.

Helps if you are thorough in cleaning treating and are patient. It kills the nymphs that come out of the eggs. Not a quick fix. Other supplements needed and controlling almost daily is important too . DE never caused respiratory problems with my chickens. I have rubbed them in after dark. Painted the inside of the cope with a DE mash, added it in the sand-bath, under the bedding in the nestboxes. Great stuff to prevent nasty infestations imo.
