Hi everyone,

Will lice lay their eggs on chicken eggs?? I've gotten a few eggs these past few days (from the same chicken I think) and there has been clumps of straw colored dots (kind of like what I think lice eggs look like) on the shell. Is this just an abnormality on the eggs or is it lice eggs??

Thanks

I would dust my chickens with either sevin dust or DE to kill the lice, cause it sounds like you might have a problem with it. Then do these dots scrape off or do they stay? some fertilized eggs have theses dots or bumps. I personally would either dust them or put the dust where they dust bathe...justa thought

Lice eggs wouldn't be laid on eggs, but rather on feather shafts and the chicken themselves. I bet you are seeing just minor shell deformities that occur on eggs normally, which are "culled" from eggs you see in the store. Some birds lay these little shell deformities their whole lives, some only do it at beginning of laying after moult or as pullets. Don't worry a bit!

Sometimes I get some pretty weird looking eggs. I have four girls that are laying and occasionally their eggs will be wrinkly or spotty. It's always a surprise as to what I'll find. I never saw a chicken that pink color. Is that from photo shop or some rare breed?
