Hi everyone, I was wondering about one of my chickens. I ordered 7 light Brahma pullets but one of them is very different then the others. They are exactly 10 weeks old today. Six of them are very fluffy and fat looking. Lots of feathers and fluffy tail feathers. But one is much smaller, not fluffy and fat at all. and sparse tail feathers that point up and not big anf full and rounded ;like the others. I also see it doing some weird dances in th epen. It will strut around jutting its neck out and its pretty funny to watch it. Based on these descriptions would you think I have a Roo? I cant get pictures on my laptop, no idea how to do it but maybe my son can help me out with that. Id love to have a Roo, wish I ordered one so Im keeping my fingers crossed its a Roo and not a silly underdeveloped pullet :idunno Thanks for any replies Dee

Sounds to me like it is a cockerel. Are his combs/wattles/earlobes redder than the other ones you have? That's a good way to tell what gender they are when they are young.

The comb and ears dont look too different really but the wattles are coming in dark red and the other 6 LB have much lighter wattles. Hmmm. Could be a dominant pullet too I suppose. I wonder if it was trying to crow when it was doing that weird thing with its neck and head, jutting it out in all directions. Well, I will wait and see what happens. Dee:confused:

The Comb is not as obviously different as it is with the single comb breeds and since they develop slower it isn't as noticeable quite yet. But it sounds similar to my boy who is also 10 weeks. He is just a bit pinker in the face. The upright tail is a good clue and also if the comb looks more like three rows than it is probably a cockerel, at 10 weeks the girls are still pretty flat but the boys will be more visible and look like 3 little rows even if it is still just a peachy tan color. Mine never crowed until about 20 weeks but I suppose he could be testing the waters.
