We have concluded our one year old Light Brahma rooster is over breeding our 6 hens, so have decided to get rid of him. We live near Champaign, IL. Any takers? We'd rather not see him be butchered, he's very protective of the flock.

Would be best to put an ad in your local craigslist or similar sales venue.
Sometimes you cannot dictate what happens to a bird you sell or give away.
If you insist that he not be eaten, clearly state such in the ad, and expect it to take longer to get rid of him.

Might also try one of the state threads here on BYC
