I have a light brahma that is really red in the face. It's tail feathers are not getting any longer but they have a hint of green in them, not just the black. Sorry no pic. Do I have a rooster? It keeps picking fights with my maran, who I think is a pullet.

I would check for spurrs no the legs, and then comb/wattle development. Look at pictures (or live ones) of brahma hens and roosters, and see which comb yours seems to be getting. How old is he/she?

I'm not sure how old they are. They all have their adult feathers but they aren't laying yet. I have 8 all together. One buff cochin hen, 1 cookoo maran I think it's a hen, 2 goldenlaced wyandotte hens, 1 goldenlaced wyandotte roo, 2 americana hens and the brahma in question. I was told they would start laying in the fall. How old do you think they could be? They are still growing, that's for sure.

Looking at the pictures of the hen and rooster, i would say i have a rooster. The person I bought them from said I could trade the roos for hens. I don't want roosters just cuz the thought of eating eggs that are fertalized grosses me out. The roosters will mate with any breed hens or do they stick to their own breed? (i know, stupid question. I'm new to this chicken thing)

Roos will mate with other breeds.

Fertilized eggs taste the same as unfertilized. And roos make great protectors for the flock.

Hi! I'm confused about the same thing! I have three 7 week olds that appear to be SLW and Light Brahma cross-breeds. The roo is WAY bigger than the others, aggressive, growing spurs and crowing his head off. The other two are similar in body shape, smaller and more low to the ground. One has a narrow peach comb and the other has a very wide red comb, wattles are coming in, and s/he has irridescent green/black feathers on the neck and tail. I have my fingures crossed that it's a hen!
