I moved my five week old chicks into the garage today and am wondering if I should leave a low wattage light on overnight rather than having it pitch dark. This hasn't been a concern of mine in the past as my old garage door had windows, however my new garage door does not. They have plenty of light during the day and I am reducing it as gradually as I can. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

A tiny night light might be nice but is not necessary. I might leave one on for half an hour or so, just until they're well settled, then turn it off. My 5-week old chicks are in an outdoor brooder now with no light and they're fine. If they've been accustomed to some light they may fuss a little, but they should settle down quickly. If it's light enough for them to see, they won't settle down and sleep, and it's during sleep that they grow.
