Can someone out there please tell me if this bird is a light sussex??? The comb is so small i was not sure if it could possibly be a columbian wyandotte? Her sister is black and speckled what is
she??? They are about 16 wks old.
I assume they are both girls as comb's are still so small given their ages???

She certainly looks like a light sussex. Right comb and correct leg color. If she were a single combed columbian wyandotte she should have yellow legs instead of white. At that age, I'd definitely say hen for sure with the size of the comb and lack of any pointy saddle feathers.

Not sure about the other one. She looks like she could be a poorly laced bird, or maybe a silver sussex. Maybe even a mix?

You state the other bird pictured is a "sister" by that do you mean they have the same parentage? If so the bird in question isn't a Light Sussex she's just a bird with Columbian colouration. Both birds are pullets.

Congratulations you have a light Sussex and a silver Sussex. I breed both, both are also pullets. They are good dual purpose birds. They lay well . The silver Sussex are still rare in the USA. If you decide you would like a silver Sussex boy to go with them let me know

Not sure about parentage but both chicks were hatched out if same batch at my daughter's kindergarten.

Awesome, glad they are both pullets. Thank you for your information. One more thing when should they begin to lay? It is still winter here in Australia will that make a difference? I love my chooks, best pets ever.:)
