should i put lights in my coop or not? if so what kind would you recommend? we were going to put some on the outside. should they be able to light up the run too or just the front?

Unless you'd need the lighting for your own use why bother? The chickens don't need it.

My chickens needed a night light to get off the roost and find the nest box in January and February. I used two led battery operated low light stairway lights. Photo sencer on/off. Lasted almost four months by then it was a non issue.
If I put a light on the outside, it would be a motion sencer light to tell me to look for the bandit trying to get my chickens. My night checks I do with a flash light.

I have a light inside for supplemental lighting in winter.
But I use a headlight for nighttime chicken chores(locking up, headcount, exams)
