I forgot to add another question. We only get about 9 he’s of daylight. Would I light up the run or the coop on a timer. Thanks!!
 
That depends on a few things. Age is one. The second autumn and each thereafter they will take a break for molting and no amount of light will cause them to lay while molting and recovering.
First year birds production may benefit from extending the day length. If adding light, it only needs to be where they sleep. If they are locked in the coop, light in the run isn't helpful.
 
If it is very cold where you live, giving the chickens some extra light can be very helpful since they only eat when they have light, and the feed they eat keeps them warm.
