Lights for egg production??

Would it be ok to use Christmas lights or rope lighting in the coop, on a timer to provided the extra light. It seems it would be safer to use this kind of lights --less of a fire risk. True??? Thanks Dixie

Rope light ought to work out fabulously.

Our light is on a timer... Goes on at 6AM, goes off at 8PM.

BUT.... our egg production is slipping. We only got 6 today, 9 yesterday, 12 the day before that. We were getting 12 a day all of the time before that. And I have a couple of broodies and some non layers that I need to process.
