We have 5 baby chicks in a little brooder in our home. Every evening while watching tv my husband, son, and I each have one or two on our lap or shoulder entertaining us - usually more than the tv does. Night before last my husband had some crickets left over from his latest fishing trip and decided to see what the babies would do with one. He dropped the little cricket in with the chicks....and they ran from it like it was some large monster !!
We laughed 'till we all had tears running down our cheeks.
Only one of the larger solid white chicks would go near it, curious, but as soon as the cricket moved poor little chick was gone like a rocket in the other direction. None ever touched the cricket-so he got lucky and was spared (till next fishing trip). The chicks are just starting to get their real feathers in and are so precious. I just had to share their humoring us.
