Hello all! New member here calling for advice on my poor Isa Brown, Henny Penny. She came out of the coop yesterday with no issues. She was walking just fine and running around the yard scratching for bugs. About an hr into it I noticed she was standing very still and panting. Tried to get her to move and thats when I noticed her limp. I checked her foot, no thorns or splinters to be seen and it didnt seem to be broken. It moved just fine with no catches so I am assuming she twisted or sprain it somehow. Anyhoo, Im just curious as to what I should do for her of that is the case. Do I splint it or just leave it alone? Should I give her baby aspirin or not? Some have said it masks the pain and they may injure it more. Shes in her own coop at the moment with her own separate run (we are introducing her to the flock. She was alone when she injured herself). Should I cage her and restrict her movement even more? Shes such a sweety. I hate to see her hurt. I was to help her not cull her. Just a heads up for the *let her go* idea presenters.... I dont wanna ;)

Thanks in advance for your help!

Restrict her activity for a week, and place her in a dog crate at night so she will not roost. You could also just take away the roost in her new pen or coop. After a week evaluate how she is walking, and proveed from there. If you can get an xray done by a vet, that would be the best thing, in case there is a broken bone, it could be splinted. Put a crushed vitamin B complex tablet in her water every day just to give her a boost.

She could have sprained or pulled it somehow. I’d keep an eye on her and check her feet fairly frequently. She may have stepped on something and it could develop into a bumble.
Thank you! After further eval I think its her hip. Her foot seems ok but I will keep an eye out on her foot.

Took away her roost in her new pen. Ty for that. She isnt wanting to move around much so I put her food and water next to her and she ate and drank like crazy poor girl. Hopefully she will get rest. I will def try the B complex.
