Hi Everyone!

Yesterday my 3 year old Silkie Rooster started limping and is now hopping around on 1 leg!

Looks like he might possibly have Scaley Leg Mites? Went online and read about treatment with petroleum jelly and olive oil. Soaked his legs/feet in warm water and soap first. While doing this I noticed that his legs are red with some bleeding happening at the feather shafts on his feet and legs. No bumble foot seen. After soaking and cleaning I applied the Vasoline/Olive oil mixture.

Does anyone have any other thoughts as to what this might be? Limping, Red legs and bleeding hair shafts?

Also, If it is Scaley leg mites....how soon does the limping go away??

Can you post a couple of pictures?

Scaley leg mite treatment can take a few weeks to heal.

Even better would be a short video of him with the limp.
Uploaded to YouTube.

Welcome to BYC. Sorry for the problems. Is there any possibility that flock mates are pecking at his legs ? I'd be tempted to treat his legs with antibiotic ointment. It will serve the same purpose as Vaseline, and will also help with any bacterial infection. Good luck at getting him squared away. Period of limping will vary depending upon the degree of injury.

scaley leg mites?
The leg/foot looks a bit gross because I slathered neosporin all over it
