I noticed one of my birds limping today and she’s holding one of her legs up. Does anybody notice anything suspicious in the attached pictures? I don’t see anything obvious myself. First timer here. Thank you.

Hello!

Might there be an irritant that got stuck in the foot? A thorn or a splinter, maybe? Even a small rock that got embedded into the foot? Could the hen have injured her foot or leg at some point recently, maybe by jumping off the roosting bar or slipping on something? Possibly hit it on something or even got a small cut on the sole?

I’m sorry, I can’t help you much. The last time I had a hen limping I couldn’t find the source of the problem, so I just left it and it healed by itself after a week or so. I hope it’s the same for you if you’re not able to help her!

I’m thinking maybe an injury from the roosting bar is possible. I have to see how the next days go. Also, I just noticed looking at the picture, but perhaps this is a rooster! Is that a spur I see developing by my finger in the first picture? 17 week old.

I did notice that as well, although I thought that it was an older hen. It still seems pretty small and it’s hard or even impossible tell sex based simply on the buds, so would you be able to post a few more pics of your bird and we can try to give you a better answer?…

I think there is a small cut or two on the one foot. That is how bumblefoot infection can start. I would try soaking the feet in warm Betadine water, and coating with Betadine or triple antibiotic. You could put a small 2x2 dressing on the one foot, and wrap it in tape or vet wrap. Here is a video for dressing a foot:

I attached a few more photos close-up of the foot after rinsing it off. I don’t see anything at all. Maybe it’s some kind of joint injury. Is anything looking suspect to you more seasoned chicken owners? I’ll monitor it and spray Vetericyn daily this week.
I added a picture of the bird also. Is this looking like a hen or rooster? As mentioned I just noticed what looked like a spur growing while investigating this limp.
