I have a 18mo old white Orp that has had liquid poo for quite a while now, because of this her butt feathers are nasty. They're all matted and dirty from her poo, which is even more obvious because of her white feathers.

She appears active and healthy in all other respects, laying good, comb nice red color, eating and drinking, alert.

When I clean the poop board, where she perches is more like something pee'd in it instead of poop. I don't see any worms in the liquid.

What can this be? It's been going on for quite a while now so I don't think it's the heat.

Suggestions?

thanks

What are they eating and getting for treats?

I know when mine get watermelon they get the squirts for at least a day. Same thing if I give them too many grapes.

I'd give her a good bath, inspect the vent, and try to limit anything other than crumbles/pellets for a bit. Might also want to try plain greek yogurt and/or some probios powder to make sure her tummy has the good bacteria in there working for her.

You mentioned the heat...that's another time when mine drink a *lot* of water. When it's hot they can also get runny poop from drinking a lot of water.

thanks for the replies.

I haven't had a chance to give her a bath yet, that fun comes tonight but looking at the backyardchicken link that was posted I would have to guess that Vent gleet is exactly what she's got.

Won't know till i get her cleaned up but it's looking like that's the issue.

thanks again, I'll repost after her bath.
