Litter material

I see lots of posts about using pine or other wood shavings (but not cedar.) Are shavings more preferable to sawdust, or will sawdust be OK?

Sawdust is OK. I use sawdust in my coop; it's softer, finer and I think cozier ! However, I have pine woodchips in the run. The woodchips are bigger and the girls can't scratch them out of the run (thru the hardware cloth) as easily. I used to use all sawdust, until I saw how much was getting kicked out. There were piles all around the outside of the run!
