little black jumping flies in compost bin?

What can they be? I thought maybe fleas (YIKES)!!! but they seem to have wings although I don't see any flying going on, just jumping.

Should I sprinkle DE on the compost pile. The compost is just made up of chicken poo and pine shavings.

If they are what I think they are they're called fungus gnats. They're a nuisance, but not much more. DE should take care of the problem. Good luck.

They didn't look like fungus gnats, at least not from what I could compare to, to the pics I see online. I'm really hoping they are not fleas. Anyone else hear of fleas on compost pile. Yikes, if that's the case - we are in trouble!

Even if they are fleas DE should take care of the problem.
