Well one of our new chicks wasn't as lively as the others when I put her in the brooder. I gave her some sugar water and she seemed just fine and happy after that. Well about 6 hours later she walks around and acts like everyone else but she goes and lays down when everyone is still eating and drinking. After a quick nap she gets up and acts fine. I don't know if she just is more tired then the rest or if something is wrong. I didn't make the sugar water very sweet just enough suger so when I tasted it it tasted like there was a little sugar. Should I give her something else? Maybe some yogurt? Or just let time tell?

This is Lucky one of the black austrolorps: She is also the smallest.

What a sweetie! Just make sure she is warm enough and yes sugar water is good to give. You could also try mixing some yogurt with her starter and make like a mash.
I had a couple babies and I gave them a couple drops of baby vitamins and some crumbled boiled egg yolk. they seemed to perk up after that quite a bit!

Hope all goes well with your littleone too!

Agree, except I would stop the sugar water after 24 hours or so. Might consider electrolytes, a bit of applesauce with the yogurt, and organic ACV in the water.

Ok I will try that. It was a very LONG night you can only stay up and watch them for so long, then you fall asleep in your own chair.

This morning she looks ok and was up and eating. I will give something extra once the store in town opens.

thanks
