i have 2 hung in my coop . they have 3 settings to control the flow of feed wich setting does everyone use. i use layer mash in mine and have found the first setting on it there is less waste of them billing it out.

I have a 30lb feeder as well. I think I have it on the lowest setting and have noticed less food is wasted. I fill it up once a week for 17 birds.

If you keep it at back height they will not waste feed. Adjust the rim even with their backs. You can watch them feeding and adjust it up and down until you see them going up on their toes to reach feed, it's too high at that point. You want them to feed flat footed, just at the point where they start raising up on their toes. that is the perfect setting for feeders.

If you hang it at the correct height, the setting doesn't much matter.
And if they do spill some, just don't refill until they clean it up
