Little Hatchery Mix-up :-)

I ordered 4 White Crested Polish chicks last spring and some silkies. I got a little surprise in my batch of chicks.
A Motted Cochin I have named Enigma.

He is the sweetest little guy. Takes good care of the girls and talks to them all the time. He was supposed to be a White Crested Polish Rooster, but I would not trade him for anything.

I named him Enigma because I had no idea what he was. All I knew is that he was neither a White Crested Polish nor a Silkie. Since his identity was a bit of an enigma, thus his name was given. There is a whole lot of rooster contained in his little body, so glad to have him be apart of my farm.

Cute! We have had hatchery mix ups before too. Once we thought we were getting buff Orpingtons and ended up getting one Orpington and one enormous red hen named Kiwi. She was one of the sweetest hens. Sometimes mix ups like that are even better than the birds you intended to have.

They are. I would have never considered a Motted cochin if it were not for Enigma. This spring I have ordered a few more Cochins so he can have some girls of his breed.
