Took out the ceiling in order to use the soffit vents and gable vent. Going to add another for more draft free ventalation. Thinking old farmer had pigeons above the chickens. Will say a mice are pissed because I removed their home. Left a shelf on one side. Can't ever have enough storage on a farm

Always a good idea to have plenty of ventilation. And the fact that it chased the mice out is a bonus!

The open ceiling will be much better! Many of my birds like to roost up there on the rafters, and having that added ventilation will be nice.
Fewer mice, always a bonus.

Someone had left a foam pad you use under carpet up there. If thats not a welcome mat for mice I don't know what is. I sure hope they ladies like the new open concept of their house

Would suggest mesh 'ceiling' attached to bottom of beams,
but that would restrict access to storage shelf.

Chickens in rafters, not a problem. Chickens on the shelf, a total mess. How about a cabinet with doors instead? Mary

Going to wait and see if they make their way up there. For now they are content with the roost. I was the easiest coop to build but now comes the tweaking to make it better. I think the next project is to move the chicken door to run on the south side of the coop. Made it on the north not taking into consideration the wind blows that way at our place Also thinking of putting some of the run on south side. Will be warmer in these winter months

Like 'free' chickens.
You'll figure it out...just takes time and experience and experimentation.
Stay flexible and don't damn the mistakes too long, just fix 'em.
