I have just got a new hen today that was rescued from a commercial farm. she walks like a weeble (now this is also her new name) and sometimes she cannot support her head and it turns backwards then she falls over. a friend of mine has had her for a year and this never changed. other than that she has a good appetite and looks bright. her feathers are dull and some have been plucked. does anyone know anything about hens living with wryneck and is there anything i can do to help her?

Yes, I've posted on here several times to others about how to treat wry neck. It seems to be a vitamin deficiency. Do a search in this forum for vitamin deficiency or wry neck and you should find a lot of info on how to treat it. It's totally treatable. You can also look at my page for a link that might help you out. https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/5leepy-s-member-page.

However, I'm not sure about how the treatments would work for a hen that's as old as yours. It might take several weeks of treatment to see results.

Good Luck!

Are you saying she has been like this for a year? Has any treatment been done for her previously to try to help her?

Wry neck can be cause by nutritional deficiencies or brain/spinal injuries. You can try giving her vitamins especially B & E and if that doesn't help maybe steroids like prednisone or anti-inflammatories like metacam?? But if she has been like this for a year, I am not sure if it will help but it sure could be worth a try!
