My guinea hen hatched a single keet and its about 5 days old now. Today as I was pouring food I discovered a giant lizard hiding under the nest box. As I removed the stuff under the nest box (the box is 4 feet above the ground, the guineas enjoy high nest boxes) I discovered two giant lizards. I tried catching them but they got away so I just blocked the place where they came from. Nonetheless, the coop is a summer coop and has a lot of ventilation and chicken wire where the lizards could easily return. I don't want them returning and killing the keet or stealing eggs, momma guinea attacked the larger of the two lizards and sent him flying but if they come at night she wont be able to do anything. I keep feed in a secured tub so they can't get to it unless its the feed in the food dishes for the birds. I don't want to kill lizards since they are an essential part of keeping bug levels at bay. How do i repel them from coming to the coop. I just want them away from the coop.
Thank you.

I'm not sure. They are about 6 inches long but thats with the tails slightly cut off. There are various kinds in my yard but they all are larger not the small ones. I only ever found one tiny lizard. The ones in the coop were a dark grey and had a very faint pattern they also were wider. I thought it was a snake at first. One of my cats was playing with what looked like an Alligator Lizard a couple of weeks ago but it was more lean and had brown and red colors unlike the grey ones in the coop. I'm not familiar with lizards. Sorry for the vague description.

Replacing the chicken wire with hardware cloth would help tremendously. If it were me, I'd look over every bit of the coop for openings big enough to let larger lizards in and get those spaces fixed. If a large lizard can get in, so can more nefarious critters who would like nothing more than to dine on keet.

Where do you live?....you can put your location in your profile, helps folks to help you.

Northern California. But I guess this doesnt matter. My guinea keet went missing today. The mother and keet were in the coop but when I checked on them the baby was gone, nowhere to be found. I assume it found its way out of the coop and a cat got it as there were 5 cats hanging around the coop. Mother guinea didnt seem very unhappy went on as if she never had a baby.
