For a while, I've had two llamas, until one died of old age.
Sid, my current llama was kind of lonely, and I needed a duck pen, plus a place to put extra chickens, so I added the ducks and chickens to his pen. Little did I know how strong that llama guarding instinct is.
Sid loves his flock and protects them. He'll alert with an alarm call if he thinks there's something dangerous and he'll herd the flock behind him so he can protect them.
The latest thing he's done is allow one of my chickens to ride on him. (Yes, really!) Java the EE was getting pecked by the inside egg layers something serious, so I moved her to the outside flock. Only, she was scared of everyone, so she flew up and rode Sid whenever anyone got too close. Yes, I have pictures.
So, I highly recommend llamas for chickens!
