My girls laid though when they first started laying. The coolest thing that we enjoyed is that it is all proportional...little yolk and all!

One of my girls supposedly came from a super-small egg like that, and was the runt of the litter. The rest of the chicks came out of normal eggs.

And because the small chook gets picked on, she ended up being rescued, and that was the start of how I got her. She's a normal sized chicken now, and actually the dominant hen. She just came from a teensy egg.
