My current broody, a SF named Ray, has her week old chicks out and about in the coop, but she's refusing to bring them outside. Ray's sister Doe, also a SF, is trying to go broody on me again. Doe's chicks are 9 weeks old. I'm trying to break Doe since I don't have time for a broody right now. She picked a very inconvenient time.
Yesterday Doe sat in a nestbox all day and when I threw her out, she settled for trying to steal one of Ray's chicks. Got her butt stomped.
I just heard this big commotion from the chickens so I ran out to the coop to make sure the chicks were okay. I found an upset Ray with her three chicks under her, a LARGE clump of feathers that obviously came from a salmon faverolles and Doe, missing a large clump of feathers.
I warned her about messing with her sisters chicks. She's been a broody herself, so she should know better. When will she ever learn?!?
