So I had a batch of eggs, 9 eggs. I bought them from my country store. They are barnyard mixed breed eggs. My problem is:
All but one chick hatched. The others I found hadn't been able to turn? Their heads were all on the point end of the egg. But their buts were up at the big end. The yolk still had the "string" from its "belly button" attached to the pointy end of the egg.
Is there something I could have done to prevent or help this lack of turning/orientation? They never pipped, no way they could have, some had wings in the way, others feet.

Is it possible for a chick to be too big in the egg to hatch?

They were set correctly with the airsacs up in an auto turner.

ive had that happen a couple of times with shipped eggs .. dont know the exact reason but have decided its likely temp related in combination with being shook too much in shipping - the ones that happened to me were late which suggests they were likely too cool incubating .. after a couple of times i learned to listen 'very' carefully to late hatchers and candle check good to see if theyre oriented wrong .. if they internally pipped the wrong end makingthem an air hole saved a couple for me .. just have to do it very small and right at their beak so you dont make the egg bleed much, let them finish when theyre ready .. like i said those tended to be late hatchers and wernt ready to just be pulled out but thy did need to be able to breath stuffed into the wrong end ..

These were bought less than 10 miles from me. But yes they were late hatchers! The lone surviving chick hatched on day 24. We are now day 26. Do you have a recommendation for a candler? I haven't found a good one, I have brown eggs. My incubator could be off, normally they hatch for me around day 19-20(early imo) except this batch.
