Local News Story Link Bears Eating 27 Chickens

Well, they wont come trap the bear and cubs, they won't allow her to shoot it even if she had a gun...they're tying her hands and making her provide a chicken buffet for the bears. Not a good situation.

When I worked in state parks, we would spray the dumpster with chlorine bleach. That kept all the critters out. I bet that would work for chickens too.

Hunting season is coming up.. maybe she can have a local hunter take care of the problem legally.

Sorry but bear in chicken yard means 2 friends (Mr Smith & Mr Wesson) will have a talk with the bear. No one needs to know but me what happened to the bear. Bear bacon in right tasty.
Before I moved this last spring I had some tree huggers move in the area. They were all for letting God's creatures have their way. That is until they came home to find God's creature in their kitchen. They move backed to the city where they only need to deal with the local gang members. They couldn't believe the sherriff's office called me to deal with the bear. You see I could get there 45 minutes before any officer could, that is if they could send one right out. Same results, by the time I got there the bear was gone. They were lucky that time. They could have been hurt if the bear hadn't been more affriad them than they were of him.

They really are tying her hands. I agree that she will have to do something...can't have the bears thinking that she has food just for them. That is setting up a dangerous situation. bad situation for everyone involved--including the bears!!

Quoted from article,

"He also said people can obtain a permit to kill bears if there is proof that they are causing damage."

Sounds to me as if she has all the proof she needs.

You would think they would have done something by now? its not a small predator.. bears are bad news .They wont do anything until someone gets hurt. I feel sorry for her..Sometimes it really is nessesary not to say anything and just deal with it yourself.
We had one in the woods next to us a few weeks back.I looked at it and ran screaming into the house and allmost piddled my pants.

We have a bear family locally, a sow and 2 yearling cubs.

Back in early spring they took out one of my beehives. Over the last couple of months they got 8 of my meat birds tearing into a hoophouse that I had built for them and leaving a calling card on the lawn that made clear it was a bear. In New Hampshire according to our game laws you have to prove significant and immenent damage to justify shooting the bear unless you have a tag during the hunting season. Also they will not move one unless it is a direct threat to humans. In the words of a Fish and Game officer, "The bear made a move on you, right?" So the simple solution is the bear made a clear move in your direction and you had no choice but to shoot it. Bears are only doing what bears do but they can be pests in more ways than one.
