Hi,

we have 5 barred rock hens, 4 months old. Right now I move the food out of the coop in the morning and put back in the coop in the evening. But we have hit a couple single digit nights and chilly days, now I have seen chickens shiver!

In cold weather do you leave the feed in the coop and encourage the chickens to stay in? As for water, yes it freezes, since there are just a few chickens it is easy to carry fresh water out am & pm.

We leave the layer feed in the coop, and throw scratch, BOSS, and kale, etc. in the run for them to occupy themselves with when they feel like going outside. We have a five-gallon waterer in the run, and it did freeze, but we have a smaller waterer that we change very often, in the coop.
