Hi there what does lockdown mean please. I'm guessing the the three I've lost we're shrink wrapped from what I've read and suffocated. I've been reading through and think this is what we have to do as opening the incubator seems to have killed the remaining chicks, although instructions on baton says we can:( so what can I learn from this please xx many thanks

I am learning to not open the incubator once the first egg pips. It's hard and not always possible, but I now go much longer, so I must be improving. So far, I have not lost any chicks from leaving them in the incubator too long, but I have lost some from opening it too soon.

Yesterday, I had 6 eggs hatching, 2 were out and ready to be removed last night, but I left them there and went to sleep. check them first thing this morning and all 6 were hatched! This is my best percentage yet. I'm very glad I waited, all my worries about the chicks hurting themselves on the heating element or fan or something else, were unfounded.

Unfortunately, it appears all 3 of the Rhodebar chicks are male. But I need a "backup" male or 2 anyway, so I'm glad they hatched.

Awesome!
I learned that when my later hatchers were hatching, their remains left in the egg indicated that humidity was too high prior to hatching.

Everyone has a different climate and incubator conditions. It's not always the same in every scenario, just something for everyone reading the forums to be aware of.

*edit because my phone...corrects the wrong stuff!

There is lots to learn. However I listen to many in here and do what they say, and for some reason end up losing even my own chicks in the eggs. If you know something works then stick with it, that is all I can say. I had someone tell me to put the heat up to 101 on my still bator and lost 3 of my own eggs due to, to much heat. So now we are back to 99.5. I don't care if they come later or not. I know it works for me, that is what counts. Well I am off to my daughters school they are going to try hatching some eggs in her class and I am taking the new bator and the eggs up.

Ok so I'm gonna start a new batch today. And not open at all. We don't have to set anything it just turns on and monitors everything so we can't change any settings.
The three have all been put in nursery today which is in my conservatory so they are lovely and warm maybe a little too warm but they do keep going under ecoglow so maybe they are ok..I've shown them food n water and one is eating away the other two I keep showing;)

Good luck with your next batch. I have some games coming, and am going to try my hand with them later this week.
