can someone explain this to me. Do I take the automatic turner out, How do I keep the humidity up

What incubator do you have? Different incubators have different ways to control humidity. Some are just a turn of a dial. Others you need to add more water surface area. The depth of water in a reservoir doesn’t matter, it’s the surface area where water can evaporate that matters.

My incubator has five different water reservoirs in the bottom. I leave some empty and only fill the ones I need. During lockdown I fill a couple of extras to get my humidity up. Another method for some incubators if you can is to add a new container filled with water to give more surface area. Putting a sponge, paper towel or piece of cloth in there so it wicks water out of a reservoir and creates a lot more surface area is another popular way to really increase humidity but that will run that water reservoir dry earlier. If you can give us your make and model of incubator maybe someone will be able to tell you what they have done with that specific model. It might help get their attention if you modify your thread title to include make and model.

I take my automatic turner out during lockdown. The chicks make a mess when they hatch. Removing that turner makes clean-up a lot easier. Also, my turner has a lot of sharp corners and places feet, necks, or wings could possibly get caught so the chick is trapped and injured. I don’t want my turner in there during hatch.
