I know what you are going through. We lost our last 2 hens this summer, one we do not know what happened and the other to a raccoon. This left us with one lone male.
I had ordered 15 chicks earlier and they arrived shortly after the hen massacre. They were raised in the bathtub until they started to fly out and then they were moved to a very secure area to continue to develop.
Papa guinea went nuts when he heard the baby talking. He and his ‘pall’ (the lone peahen who found her way to our drive??? No peacocks in the area) came in to investigate. Papa would talk to them every night when he was roosting. He would also come running every time they would become upset.
Today was one happy day for Papa. The babies were let out into the run, they are now 6 weeks old. We opened up their box to visit the wide open space of the run. We kept Papa out of the run while we let them out. They didn’t move around much and Papa was asking to go into the run.
Papa greeted the babies and started to very slowly move them around. He clucked and chirped to them. Showed them the water and grain.
He is one happy guinea. Now to see how ‘Professor’ Peahen does with the babies.
