Hello! Looking for some advice. I lost 5 of my 6 beautiful girls (almost a year old) this weekend including our sweet Cakey Cake, an awesome Buff Orpington that ran to my daughter whenever she came outside. Raccoons got the lock on my coop open. We are so devastated, our girls were part of the family, extremely friendly and excellent layers. We put a lot of love and effort into our flock and can't even believe they're gone. My question is about my remaining Sussex. She is unharmed, still comes right up to me so not too traumatized but I feel like she might get lonely. Is this a thing? Will she miss the rest of the flock or be ok as a lone chicken for awhile? We do plan to get some more chicks, and yes have replaced the locking system to prevent further infiltration. But I think it will be about a month or so. Will she be ok alone for that long? I really appreciate any advice!

So sorry for your loss. She will survive alone, but will be more happy once you expand your flock. Good luck in keeping them safe.

So sorry about your chickens.....esp about Cakey Cake...I have a Buff so completely understand how much you can love them.

So sorry about your loss. Your bird should be fine for awhile alone. I have a male right now by himself but he has an ear infection I have been treating and I don't want to expose the other birds. Good luck...

Sorry you had such an awful experiences.:hugs

In general chicks should be kept apart untill they are old enough to stand up to an adult hen. So your sussex is quit alone for a long time I you get baby chicks.

That's why I would search an adult chicken for company to start with. Be sure she is healthy.
