I went to pick up some guineas today from a breeder and as I was looking over her box of 200 keets, I see a light shining behind it. Naturally, being curious, I look behind to see a single khaki cambell duckling sleeping all by himself. I asked the lady, "Whats that duck doing all alone? Is he sick?" The lady told me that she incubated and hatches all the eggs herself and had 4 duck eggs, and three of them hatched at the same time. Someone came by and bought those three and her fourth egg hatched all alone just an hour later. She felt bad for him being lonely and told me, "$4 and I'll give you him and if I hatch another I'll personally give you it for free! I feel so bad for him being all alone!" So naturally I said YES! But I don't have any other ducks and he's too small for the chicks right now, so he's in with 6 little guinea keets. I checked in on them and he was sleeping with two keets piled on top of him and the rest sleeping around him! He's already flocking right with them! Won't leave their side. I've named him Melon because he is LOVING watermelon as a snack! Also Melon is a gender neutral name and I don't know how to tell the sex lol. Any help in that area?

:welcome I hope you can get him a buddy even though he is in with the meets eventually they may not want him and then he’ll be alone again. They just do so much better having one of their own. Can we have some pics?

Of course! I don't want him to be lonely! I only have one pretty bad pic from when I first moved them in to show the breeder they made it okay, but I will definitely include more in a little bit!

Only way to know at that age and it's risky for injury is to vent sex. 3 more weeks and it will be working on it's voice, then you'll be able to get an idea. Females start off honking peeping, drakes peep longer and never do get a quack they just sound like a frog.

Yikes I'm not confident in vent sexing, wouldn't even try it with my chickens. As a Khaki Cambell, he should get green feathers on his head if a drake??
