In April my husband and I purchased 3 pullets, two of which turned out to be ROOS! We just got rid of the roos and our hen is so lonely and making pretty icky noises-- likely looking for her lost friends.

We currently have 2, five day old chicks, but they are much too young to be introduced into the coop. Any ideas on what we can do for our 4 month old lonely barred cochin??

Thank you

When the babies are old enough to go in the coop you could get a dog cage and put them in it - in the coop. That way your hen would have company and it would allow her to get used to them. Also it protects them if she happens to be a bit cross.

Thank you, I'll will give this a try with the little guys.

Any suggestions on hushing up the older hen or keeping her occupied while in her coop? We let her out in the evenings when we return from work and this tends to keep her quiet...but any other tricks would be appreciated!

HUM.....how sad!

I know you might now WANT to....but I would look for another 4 month old hen.

Put a want ad out...I'm sure there are larger flocks that could part with one....or two....or three.....
