lonely hen gets cold

How cold can a single hen, in a coop built for 4 birds, extra straw in there to take up space, survive with no heat source. The coop does close up but door is not tight. just a temporary wood flap.
I had something similar. A lone survivor. I purchased a bail of straw stuffed it in all the corners deep and thick. Then I purchased wood shavings and made a nice layer of that (easier to pick up poop). You could also wrap large trash bags on the outside especially where the nesting box is because it’s drafty. Just keep her dry and she’ll be okay. If you get seriously worried since you only have one you could bring her in the garage if you have one (perhaps in a dog crate). Bringing her into the house might do more harm than good if she’ll be outside during the day because she won’t acclimate properly. God gave her fluffy feathers for a reason she should be fine, really. Best wishes

Water is much much more effective at leaching heat than air is.
This is why it is important to maintain as dry a living and roosting area as you can. That being said I keep as many as 400 hens and pullets and every one slept 24-7 in either an oak or a peach tree. I never had a bad problem with my hens getting cold damage. Straight combed roosters was another thing entirely.

Well, that's interesting!!
Hope it's damped down quite a ways.
Got pics?

Well.... I must say after all the stuff I've read , we are going with no heat source. Emergency only if necessary.
Thank you very much
PS...fans used to move air made too much noise anyway.
