I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing... This site was suggested to me because I have a dilemma.

I have a lonely black-tailed white Japanese bantam rooster in one of two chicken houses. He lost his mate late last summer. It's a small house, but he needs company. Can anyone help me find him a hen or two of the same breed?

I tried putting one of the young Silky hens from the other chicken house in his yard, but she was unhappy--wanted to go "home" in the worst kind of way.

I did an internet search for his breed, but the hatcheries will sell only in large quantities. I already have too many Silky Bantams--I just need a mate for my lonely rooster.

Why not go to a local poultry show? (not the county fair. They probably do not sell live birds) At the show, you can ask around until you find somebody. Japanese aren't at all shows, but you can search for some. Unless you show, you might want to ask the breeder for the birds that they can't show because they aren't "quality". Or, you can go to the feed store to get some chicks, if they get Japanese. (You can special order from some) I would get more than one, so if one dies, there will be another.
Or, you can place your rooster with multiple silky hens. If they all know each other, they might not want to go home so bad. You might want to post an ad on Craigslist, too. Good luck.

Thanks so much! Our local Grange Supply doesn't get Japanese bantams. I'll try poultry shows. That's a good suggestion to get more than one.
