Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Hi all I was wondering about my silkie roo, he is almost a year old and his name is Mr. Pickles. A while back he lost his mate Ninja. They went everywhere together and he saved her twice from dogs and hawks. He went through the same problem less than a week ago. He had really started to get attached to my EE Cuddles, she got eaten by some predator over night. He just seems lonely and grumpy. He attacks people but that's not new. I am planning to get some silkie chicks in August for him but it will be awhile before they will be big enough for him to be around them. I have some 4-5 week old RIR and barnyard mixes right now. I tried to introduce them to him, he is patient but he tried to attack one of them yesterday. I don't know what to do for him, he has some duck friends but he just seems lonely. Any advice?

I let him see them but I had him in his pen so they see each other but be separated. Then I let him out with them for about 15 minutes. He was really patient with them. Then I let him visit them in their pen once a day after that.
You should have them separated for at least a couple days.
"See, but don't touch" should do the trick for a couple days. Make sure both sides have access to feed and water, and observe the behavior of the roo.

Good luck.

Leave his in his crate with food and water for at least a week with the young ones able to come around the crate all day long.
Make sure you have lots of "stuff" in the pen, things to hide behind and perch on and organic litter on the ground to scratch around in.
After the week is up, let him out and observe.

Okay thank you!
